At the CES 2006 Keynote address with Bill Gates, Microsoft used an Asus notebook to demonstrate future capabilities that Windows Vista will provide for laptops. The Asus laptop had a built-in LCD display on the lid that hooked into the Windows Vista OS to provide feedback on the state of the notebook and notify of new emails or allow you to do such things as search contacts in Outlook without opening the lid. The LCD could also use Microsoft's SPOT technology to display such things as local weather and sports information. Asus indicated that they would be shipping notebooks with this built-in LCD display by mid-year and those that upgrade to Windows Vista would be able to take full advantage of the display. Below are pictures taken of the Asus notebook shown during the keynote and on display in the Microsoft booth.
